Led by COE professors Dr. Dorene Huvaere and Dr. Elizabeth Sturm, this program provides you the unique chance to have an immersive experience at the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana while earning Lewis credit. The Blackfeet Nation Reservation is the home to the Blackfeet Nation, one of the ten largest tribes in the US. You will be able to assist in classes at the DeLaSalle Blackfeet School, live at the Holy Family Mission, and learn about the work of the Lasallian Christian Brothers and the Lasallian Volunteers.

The courses, either a three credit undergraduate course or a one credit graduate course, is designed to explore the goals of multicultural education and aid students in developing their own understanding of teaching from a multicultural perspective.  Students will also acquire an understanding of the importance and process of linking home, neighborhood and community contexts to school and classroom contexts in an effort to promote a bias free, culturally sensitive learning environment

Courses
You will be registered for the COE Blackfeet Reservation course during the Spring semester. You should consult with your major advisor to ascertain which courses will be most appropriate for your academic plan. In addition to the coursework that you will be doing while you are travelling, you will also have meetings on campus before and after the trip. These meetings will provide an opportunity to better prepare for all of the things that you will experience during your travel component and to complete the summative project.

ELED45500 Minority Experiences in Education (3 credits)

ELED56600 Minority Experiences in Education (1 credit)

Cost
The cost of the COE Blackfeet Reservation Travel Study 2018  program is expected to be $900.   The program fee includes transportation, accommodation, most meals, site visits, administrative fees, and program-sponsored excursions. In most cases, the tuition costs for the courses will be included in the normal Lewis tuition package rate.  Both the course and the program fee will be placed onto your student account during the Spring semester.

The program fee does not include additional meals, supplies, personal expenses, and any passport and visa fees.

Program fees are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost.
