Program Description
Spend a semester studying in one of the cultural gems of Ireland. You can study in Galway for either the fall or spring semester at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Located on the banks of the River Corrib near the city of Galway, NUIG is one of Ireland's top universities. Home to over 10,000 students, 1,000 of whom are international or visiting students, NUIG offers courses in virtually every subject.

Due to NUIG's large student population, students have the opportunity to get involved in countless clubs and activities. In years' past, students have done everything from join the rugby club team to master Irish dancing. Students looking to immerse themselves comfortably in another culture have a world of possibilities open to them at NUIG.

Ireland is country with a rich artistic legacy, a complex history, and stunning landscapes. The largest and most important city in the west of Ireland for nearly 1,000 years, Galway has a population of 65,000. A cosmopolitan city with a thriving cultural and commercial community, Galway has earned its title, "Cultural Capital of Ireland," because of its dynamic theater, arts, and culture scene. Students seeking a cozy, accessible city with a cosmopolitan, European atmosphere will have the best of both worlds in Galway.

Courses
You are required to remain as full-time student while you are at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). This is normally four classes, or modules, of your choosing. Each class/module will usually count as a 3-4 credit course here at Lewis. You will choose four classes/modules in the many subjects offered at NUIG, which include:

Housing
Like many European universities, NUIG does not provide housing directly on-campus.  Students will be placed with other study abroad students in 4-person flats at Niland House, which is a beautiful 10-minute walk from NUIG's campus. All apartments have fully equipped kitchens, and students must be prepared to cook for themselves during their semester in Galway. The flats are also fully furnished with furniture, beds, and linens.

Cost
For the current program charge amount, please check the Budget Sheets above or contact the International Study Abroad office.  The program charge includes Lewis tuition, housing, on-site orientation, program-sponsored excursions, and a mandatory $300 Lewis Study Abroad fee.

The program charge does not include airfare, passport and visa fees, meals, supplies, and personal expenses.

Program charges are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost. Lewis University, therefore, reserves the right to adjust program fees and the right to cancel or alter programs and courses.

Application
To be eligible, you must be a Lewis student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has Sophomore, Junior, or first semester Senior standing or will have that standing when you participate.
