Program Description
Spend a semester on the Mediterranean coast! In association with the Lasallian International Programs Consortium and St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, you can study for the fall or spring semester at the Spanish Studies Abroad, Center for Cross-Cultural Study, center in Alicante, Spain and at the University of Alicante. The Center for Cross-Cultural Study, Spanish Studies Abroad (SSA) offers semester programs in the coastal city of Alicante, Spain.  SSA facilitates a true cross-cultural exchange by inviting students to expand their world-view through immersion in the Spanish culture. 
Spanish Studies Abroad, in cooperation with the Universidad de Alicante (UA), offers students with little or no previous background in Spanish, the opportunity to take courses in English and Spanish at a local Spanish university. In addition to a unique Spanish Studies Language and Culture component, students take the majority of their classes in English and attend these courses alongside other international students studying business at UA.
To enhance your cultural experience in Alicante, Spanish Studies Abroad organizes various excursions, study visits and other activities throughout the semester. These activities are coordinated to enhance your class studies and designed to expand your vision Spanish arts and culture.  In addition, Universidad de Alicante's international students program Centro Superior de Idiomas  (CSI) organizes cultural travel for international students attending Universidad de Alicante.

Program Links Courses
You will begin the program with a month of intensive Spanish language study at your level, which is worth 4-5 credits.  You will then conitnue the semester taking one 3 credit course in Spanish language along with courses in English at the Universidad de Alicante.  You will receive 14-18 Lewis credits for your experience in Alicante.  The courses available in English include:

In addition to enrolling in the regular Spanish Studies semester courses, qualified students may also take advantage of Experiential Learning opportunities. This includes service learning projects, internships, and independent research projects.

Spanish Studies Abroad offers students the opportunity to live in a Spanish home during their program. Your Spanish home will be the focal point of your social experience– where you will sleep, eat, study, and relax.  Your homestay includes full room and board as well as laundry and the cleaning of your room. Special dietary or housing accommodations may be made, but may require an additional fee. To ensure that your home will provide a warm and tranquil atmosphere, one conducive to learning, Spanish Studies staff discusses norms and policies with hosts and regularly inspects the homes.

For the current program charge amount, please check the Budget Sheets located at the top of the page or contact the Study Abroad Office.  The program charge includes Lewis tuition, accommodation in a homestay, three meals per day Monday-Saturday, program-sponsored excursions, and a mandatory $300 Lewis Study Abroad fee.
The program fee does not include airfare, passport and/or visa fees, additional meals, supplies, and personal expenses.
Program charges are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost. Lewis University, therefore, reserves the right to adjust program fees and the right to cancel or alter programs and courses.

To be eligible, you must be a Lewis student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has Sophomore, Junior, or first semester Senior standing or will have that standing when you participate.  There are no language prerequisites for this program..
