Study in Seville (SSA)
Fall: August - December
Spring: February - May
Spend a semester in the heart of Andalucia! In association with the Lasallian International Programs Consortium and St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, you can study the fall or spring semester at the Center for Cross-Cultural Study in Seville, Spain.
The Center for Cross-Cultural Study (CC-CS)/Spanish Studies Abroad (SSA) offers semester programs in the beautiful city of Seville, Spain. The CC-CS facilitates a true cross-cultural exchange by inviting students to expand their world-view through intense immersion into the Spanish culture. The Center is housed in two turn-of-the-century mansions in the heart of Seville's commercial and social center. CC-CS is a short walk from the University of Seville, and some of Spain's most glorious and historic sites, including the Catedral and Giralda (the symbol of Seville), the Torre del Oro, the Alcazar palace, many museums and the beautiful Guadalquivir River. Seville is also located within an hour and a half of the Costa del Sol and its sunny beaches.
Seville, a beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, is known for its Moorish palaces and renaissance gardens, flower-decked patios, paintings, statues, flamenco dancing and music. It is the capital and largest city of the region of Andalusia in southern Spain, with a population of about 800,000 in Seville proper and about 1 million when including the urban area. Seville is also famous for its traditions of flamenco dancing, bullfighting, colorful fiestas, and wonderful cuisine.
You have the choice of participating in the Advanced Spanish Studies Program in Spanish Language & Culture, the Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students Program, or the Integrated Spanish Studies with Local Students Program.
For the Advanced Spanish Studies track, you will study at the CC-CS center taking courses from a wide variety of disciplines specifically designed to enhance your understanding of modern Spain and its language.
The Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies Program is designed for the advanced student that has completed one semester of advanced college Spanish. Through courses at both the CC-CS Center and at Universidad de Sevilla, you benefit from a combination of cultural preparation, specially designed courses, and guided direct enrollment at the local university.
The Integrated Spanish Studies Program is also designed for the advanced student that has completed at least one semester of advanced Spanish. You attend classes alongside native Spanish students at Universidad de Sevilla. After an initial intensive language period, the term of study follows the university’s academic year calendar and you can select courses from the university’s many disciplines.
You have two housing options: homestays and student residences. A homestay gives you a unique insight into Spanish culture by allowing you to become part of a Spanish family. A homestay includes full room and board as well as laundry and the cleaning of your room. The same-sex student residences house mainly Spaniards and provide you with full room and board. The common areas have refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines, computers with Internet access and TVs for use at no extra charge.
For the current program charge amount, please contact the Study Abroad office. The program charge includes Lewis tuition, accommodation in a homestay or student residence, three meals per day Monday-Saturday, program-sponsored excursions, and a mandatory $300 Lewis Study Abroad fee.
The program fee does not include airfare, passport and/or visa fees, additional meals, supplies, and personal expenses.
Program charges are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost. Lewis University, therefore, reserves the right to adjust program fees and the right to cancel or alter programs and courses.
To be eligible, you must be a Lewis student with at least a 3.0 GPA who has Sophomore, Junior, or first semester Senior standing or will have that standing when you participate. Due to the nature of the program, you must also have completed at least three semesters of college-level Spanish or demonstrate language proficiency at the intermediate or higher level.
